MacBook Air M1 repair (2020)
The M1 MacBook Air is silent, fast and hugely popular. Its most common repair is a cracked screen.
The M1 Air keeps the wedge shape of the Intel model but has no fan at all. Memory and storage are part of the logic board. It is still a very capable laptop, so it is almost always worth repairing.

Why M1 Air screens crack
There is very little clearance between the screen and the keyboard when the lid is closed. A crumb, a grain of grit or a camera cover is enough to crack the panel the next time the lid is shut. The repair is a new display assembly.
After a spill
With no fan and no vents, liquid that gets in tends to stay in.
- Hold the power button until it switches off, and unplug the charger.
- Don't turn it back on to check whether it still works.
- Bring it in as soon as you can. Corrosion starts quickly on a powered board.

Can you recover my files if this Mac won't turn on?
On this generation the storage is part of the logic board and is encrypted by the Mac's own security chip, so it can't simply be removed and read. Getting the data back means repairing the logic board far enough to copy it off, which is exactly what our component-level repair is for. See Mac data recovery.

Is the repair guaranteed?
Yes. Parts we fit and motherboard repairs carry a 90-day warranty. If the same fault comes back in that time, bring the machine in and we'll put it right.
