MacBook Pro Retina repair, 2012 to 2015
The first Retina MacBook Pros are thin, fast and still very capable. We repair every 13 and 15 inch model from Mid 2012 to Mid 2015.
These are the Retina models with MagSafe 2, HDMI and an SD card slot. The memory is soldered to the logic board and the battery is glued into the case, but the SSD is a removable module, so storage can still be upgraded.

Swollen batteries
If the trackpad has become hard to click or the base no longer sits flat, the battery underneath is swelling. Stop charging the laptop and bring it in. The battery is glued in, so it has to be removed carefully with the right solvent and tools.
Screen coating and graphics faults
The anti-reflective coating on these displays can wear away in patches, and the fix is a new display assembly. The Mid 2012 and Early 2013 15 inch models are also known for graphics chip faults that cause distorted video or a black screen. Those are repaired at board level.

Common questions
Can the memory be upgraded?
No. The memory is soldered to the logic board on every Retina model. The SSD can be upgraded, which is usually the more useful change.
Can you still get my files if it won't start?
Usually, yes. The SSD in these models is a separate module, so we can remove it and read it directly even when the laptop is dead.
Can you collect my Mac from Fulham or Central London?
Collection and return can be arranged for homes and offices across Fulham and Central London. Ask when you call 020 7237 6805 and we'll confirm what's possible for your postcode. You're also welcome to bring it to the workshop at Willow Walk, SE1, Monday to Saturday.
Is the repair guaranteed?
Yes. Parts we fit and motherboard repairs carry a 90-day warranty. If the same fault comes back in that time, bring the machine in and we'll put it right.
